thank you to all 918 attendees who helped make the 2019 irem global summit a record-breaking year for attendance and more! here’s a recap of the event. if you weren’t able to join us, make plans to meet us in toronto, canada, for the 2020 irem global summit taking place oct. 13-16, 2020.

irem community service project

we teamed up with glide methodist church to help with their breakfast meal program for the homeless on wednesday, sept. 25. over 40 members signed up to volunteer, and we served almost 700 meals!

inaugural gala

cheryl gray, cpm® was installed as 2020 irem president and the first president from outside the u.s. at the inaugural gala on thursday, sept. 26. at the gala, environmentally-friendly centerpieces were displayed and later donated to larkin street youth services for use in their garden. larkin street youth services is a non-profit empowering young people to move beyond homelessness.

congratulations to ryan leon, solutions consultant at yardi systems on winning the first-ever irem mario kart tournament! ryan was one of four top players who battled it out in the mario kart tournament championship before the keynote session on thursday, sept. 26.

foundation highlights

elaina’s fund
cheryl gray announced a $50,000 pledge to the irem foundation to create elaina’s sustainability endowment fund in honor of her late daughter, elaina tattersdale. the fund will award grants to support sustainability initiatives. the irem foundation has raised an additional $23,000, including a $2,500 donation made by cheryl’s fellow officers and 2020 senior vice presidents, and further donations will provide additional sustainability grants. those interested in contributing can visit iremfoundation.org, click “donate now,” and then select “elaina’s fund” from the drop down menu.

the irem foundation raised approximately $37,000 to support scholarships and diversity initiatives through activities at the global summit. thanks to all who contributed by bidding on auction items, playing the cash dash, participating in jeans day, and competing in the steps challenge.

passport reminder: all u.s. and international travelers interested in attending the 2020 irem global summit must carry a valid passport and a valid visa (if necessary) when entering canada. if you already hold a passport, please be sure to check the expiration date to make sure your passport will still be valid at least three months from the end date of the conference (jan. 16, 2021). if your passport will expire before then, you must renew your passport before traveling to the conference. failure to do so could result in denied entry to canada.
