course description
after a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, flood, or other water infiltration event, excess moisture and contaminated water may present public health risks in the built environment. this course outlines the role of the industrial hygienist in risk management and their interaction with building owners and managers. the experienced industrial hygienist understands the intricacies of disaster response management and that timely action, often within 24 hours of the event, can help mitigate further risk. management strategies including science-based guidance to assess potential biological contamination, condition of mechanical systems, and coordination with the response team will be presented.
