real estate coalitions responds to recent white house announcement
irem and our real estate coalition organizations released a statement to the administration regarding their announcement addressing the affordability crisis.
our response communicated our disappointment that the release focused on creating potentially duplicative and onerous federal regulations that interfere with state and local laws meant to govern the housing provider and resident relationship.
our reply also indicated how the effort does nothing to address the underlying cause of the housing affordability crisis. the coalition stated how competitive and professionally managed apartment industry is, by definition, resident-centered. there is no rental housing industry without our residents. we reiterated the message conveyed in letters we sent to the administration in july and december of last year—removing obstacles to new housing production should be the administration’s priority.
